Bags that don’t clog up the cabinets and landfills or feed our equally-accumulating guilt. These bas, see, maek us feel good. “Every time I walk out when I do have them, it really makes me feel like I’m doing my part to make our world a greener, healthier world” says 30 year old Heather Dennis of Nashville “So that the incentive to do it; it just makes me feel good to have one less Plastic bag” We want them bags. Want them with a passion. And you know where we’re getting them? From grocers.
U.S. to get tougher on employers of illegal immigrants
By Julia Preston
In a new effort to crack down on illegal immigrants, federal authorities in the United States are expected to announce rules this week that would require employers to fire workers who use false Social Security numbers. Officials said the rules would be backed up by increased raids on workplaces across the country that employ illegal immigrants. After first proposing the rules last year, Homeland Security officials said they held off finishing them to await the outcome of the debate in Congress over a sweeping immigration bill. The measure, which was supported by President George W. Bush, died in the Senate in June. Now administration officials are signaling that they intend to clamp down on employers of illegal immigrants even without a new immigration law to offer legal status to millions of illegal immigrants already in the work force.
